Today marks the start of a new marketing year for U.S. corn and beans.

Extreme heat is expected to persist in mostly the Western portion of the Midwest. August is a big month for bean development. Even though the Pro Farmer Tour had large pod counts. The market will be watching closely how beans finish and pod fill as harvest nears.

From Monday’s opening to Thursday’s close, November ’23 soybeans gained 20 ½ cents, December ’23 corn lost 2 ¼ cents and September’23 wheat lost 41 cents.

Commodities have seen increases across the board this week. This is due to a few factors including the escalated conflict between Russia & Ukraine, as well as a hotter/drier outlook for the second half of July. In fact, prices for wheat increased 40 cents, beans increased 14 ½ cents and corn increased 26 ¾ cents from Monday’s open to Thursday’s close.
